Through the co-operative effort of LGI and our insurance partners, these new Group Insurance Benefit Plans feature the right combination of competitive pricing, product flexibility and quality service to meet your budget considerations and employee needs.

The following is a brief overview of many of the popular features of our Group Insurance Benefit Plans.

LIFE INSURANCE

Life Insurance provides plan members and their families with the comforting assurance of financial support in the event of death or a tragic accident.

The Life Insurance benefit is flexible and can be based either on specific amounts, or a multiple of a plan member's annual salary or combination of both.

In addition to the plan member's life insurance, additional optional coverage is available for Dependent Life Insurance based on specific amounts for the spouse and children.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT

Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance is an additional benefit available with Life coverage. It provides members and/or their families with additional benefits should the plan members die, lose a limb, become paralyzed, or lose their hearing, speech or sight as a result of an accident.

EXTENDED HEALTH CARE

Extended Health Care benefits help plan members and their dependents pay for medical expenses that aren't covered by their provincial plan. Details of exactly what is covered, how much the plan pays, and what the deductible amounts are, may vary according to the plan you wish to choose.

An Extended Health Care package can include the following features:

  • Prescription Drugs (optional drug card)
  • Semi-Private Hospital
  • Vision Care
  • Medical Services & Equipment
  • Paramedical / Practitioners
  • Private Duty Nursing
  • Out-of-province travel assistance

HEALTH CARE SPENDING ACCOUNT

Health Care Spending Accounts (HCSA) are an addition that allows plan members to be reimbursed for their health-related expenses using pre-federal tax dollars.

It’s like a bank account: your plan members start each year with a certain number of credits in their accounts. Throughout the year, these credits may be used to pay for certain medical, vision and dental expenses that aren't covered elsewhere. The credits can be used to purchase hearing aids or eyeglasses, rent crutches or top up existing group coverage to pay the cost of a child's braces for example.

Be sure to ask about the extra advantages of adding a Health Care Spending Account!

DENTAL CARE

Dental Care is available for basic maintenance or major procedures. Plan members enjoy coverage for services and supplies provided by licensed dentists.

DISABILITY BENEFITS

If one of your plan members becomes disabled, their personal savings or spousal income may not provide sufficient resources for maintaining the basic necessities of life.

Our group disability insurance benefits help ensure your plan members continue to have a source of income should they meet the definition of disability and be unable to work for certain periods of time.

There are two types of disability benefits available.

Short-term Disability replaces salary during a plan member's brief absence from work due to illness or injury. You choose from a range of options, deciding how long employees must be off work before they can collect benefits, and the length of time benefits are payable. Some options are designed specifically for Owners.

Long-term Disability pays an income to plan member's who face longer term absences from work because of an illness or injury. The LTD option provides a similar opportunity for you to choose how long the employee must be off work before they can collect LTD benefits and the length of time benefits are payable to the disabled plan member.

CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE

Critical Illness Insurance pays a lump sum amount when a plan member is diagnosed with a covered life-threatening illness. It allows the critically ill to focus on recovery rather than worry about finances. Benefit payment can be used towards anything the plan member chooses.

Critical Illness insurance is available to plan members and eligible dependants.
